(CHIEFSWOOD ROAD, MELROSE – SPACES FOR PEOPLE)

(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2021

 

The Scottish Borders Council (Chiefswood Road, Melrose – Spaces for People) (Temporary Traffic Regulation) Order 2021 has been made under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.  The Order, which has a maximum duration of 18 months, will come into force at 08:00 on 15 May 2021 and is expected to remain in effect until 23:59 on 4 April 2022 on the dates and at the times detailed below. The Order is required for the Spaces for People initiative to make the lengths of road safer for cyclists and walkers.

When the Order comes into effect:

(a)   a 30mph speed restriction will be in force on Chiefswood Road, Melrose from a point 45 metres west of Fairways to a point 60 metres south of the Borders General Hospital access road from 15 May 2021 to 4 April 2022;

(b)   no person shall drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle along the D17/4, B6359 Dingleton Road to Chiefswood Road, at its junction with Chiefswood Road from 15 May 2021 to 30 September 2021;

(c)   a One Way Order in a north-westerly direction will be in force on Chiefswood Road, Melrose from a point 45 metres west of Fairways to the private access road to Chiefswood Cottage from 15 May 2021 to 30 September 2021; and

 (d)  no person shall drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle along Chiefswood Road, Melrose from Fairways to the private access to Chiefswood Cottage from 08:00 on 15 May 2021 to 18:00 on 16 May 2021 to permit works to be carried out to implement these restrictions. The alternative route for north-westbound traffic is via Dingleton Road, High Street, High Cross Avenue and Chiefswood Road to the point of closure. For south-eastbound traffic via Chiefswood Road, High Cross Avenue, High Street, Buccleuch Street, Abbey Street and Dingleton Road to the point of closure.

The 30mph speed restriction, the One Way Order and road closure on the D17/4 will only be in effect when appropriate signage is in place on the affected lengths of road.
