PUBLIC NOTICE

PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT LICENSING CONSULTATION

Over the next few months, the people of East Dunbartonshire will have the opportunity to comment on the review of the Public Entertainment Licensing regime. A Public Entertainment Licence is required for the use of certain premises as places of public entertainment under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982.

The Council now proposes that the classes of place and the activities for which a Public Entertainment Licence is required in East Dunbartonshire should be simplified and is keen to ensure that a Public Entertainment Licence is only required where genuinely necessary in order to ensure that the public are protected in relevant circumstances. In particular, the aim of the Council is to ensure that the licensing regime does not unduly impact upon events organised at a community level unless it is appropriate to do so in order to protect the public.

The Council wants to hear your views and is about to embark upon a detailed public consultation. The consultation will run until 8 March 2019. Details of the review, along with the draft resolution, can be found on the Council’s website at https://www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/council/consultations/public-entertainment-licences-consultation or in the Council’s Hubs or libraries. Responses to the consultation can be made either in writing or by email to the addresses below.

The results of the consultation will be reported back to the Council. Thereafter the Council will formally resolve to adopt the proposal with such modifications as it thinks fit in light of any representations received, provided these modifications do not extend the scope of the draft Resolution.

Following adoption of the formal Resolution by the Council, there will be a period of 9 months before the Resolution comes into force.

Anyone wishing to make representations about the proposal can do so in writing to Karen Donnelly, Chief Solicitor and Monitoring Officer, East Dunbartonshire Council, 12 Strathkelvin Place, Kirkintilloch G66 1TJ or by email to PELconsultation@eastdunbarton.gov.uk, by 8 March 2019.
