EAST DUNBARTONSHIRE COUNCIL – TAXI FARE REVIEW
East Dunbartonshire Council is undertaking a review under section 17 of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 of the maximum scales of fares and other charges which can be made in connection with the hire of a taxi in its area.
The first stage of the review has been completed and new scales were proposed by the Council’s Policy and Resources Committee on 25 August 2022.
The Council proposes to increase the scales from the current scales. The proposed new scales are set out in full below.
There will now be a period of public consultation between Monday 5 September 2022 and Wednesday 5 October 2022. Members of the public are invited to make representations in relation to the proposed scales. The Council will consider all representations received prior to 5 October 2022 before reaching a final decision on the new scales. These will come into effect on a date to be determined by the Council’s Policy and Resources Committee when it next meets to consider the response to the public consultation.

PROPOSED SCALES
TARIFF (1) Applicable between the hours of 6.00am and 11.00pm
MINIMUM FARE for a distance not exceeding 572 yards or for time not exceeding 2 minutes 30 seconds
(or a combination of parts of such distance and such time) £3.30
For each additional distance of 174 yards £0.20
Fares for waiting:-
For each completed period of 39 seconds £0.20
Note: The above rates include for engagement of the taxi at any point within East Dunbartonshire. Waiting begins from the time of arrival of the taxi at the place of engagement. Engagement of the taxi at a point outwith East Dunbartonshire shall be the subject of special agreement.
Fares by time:-
Fares by time must be the subject of special agreement with the hirer.
TARIFF (2) Applicable between the hours of 11.00pm and 6.00am
MINIMUM FARE for a distance not exceeding 572 yards or for time not exceeding 2 minutes 30 seconds
(or a combination of parts of such distance and such time) £5.50
For each additional distance of 174 yards £0.20
Fares for waiting:- For each completed period of 39 seconds £0.20
TARIFF (3) Applicable between the hours of 6.00pm and midnight on 24 December and 31 December and the hours of 6.00am and midnight on 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January.
MINIMUM FARE for a distance not exceeding 572 yards or for time not exceeding 2 minutes 30 seconds
(or a combination of parts of such distance and such time) £5.50
For each additional distance of 174 yards £0.35
Fares for waiting:-
For each completed period of 39 seconds £0.35
TARIFF (4) Applicable between the hours of midnight and 6.00am on 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January
MINIMUM FARE for a distance not exceeding 572 yards or for time not exceeding 2 minutes 30 seconds
(or a combination of parts of such distance and such time) £8.90
For each additional distance of 174 yards £0.35
Fares for waiting:- For each completed period of 39 seconds £0.35
EXTRA CHARGES:-
- A charge of £2.20 shall be payable when a taxi is pre-booked but not used
- Luggage not exceeding 56lbs in weight shall be carried free
- A charge of 20p shall be payable for luggage exceeding 56lbs in weight
- Hire commencing or ending at Glasgow Airport Drop Off/Pick Up zone - £4.00
Soiling Charge: £50.00
