East Dunbartonshire Council, planning authority for the area of East Dunbartonshire in terms of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by the above Act and all other enabling powers, made the East Dunbartonshire Council North Wester Cleddens Park, Bishopbriggs Tree Preservation Order, Number 1 (2024) (the “Order”) on 12 March 2024 in respect of trees at North Wester Cleddens Park within the area outlined and hatched in mauve and marked A1 on the Map annexed to the Order.

The Order, which comes into effect on 12 March 2024, will expire six months from that date unless it has during that period been confirmed by the planning authority. The effect of the Order is that it is prohibited, without the consent of East Dunbartonshire Council as planning authority:

  1. to cut down, top, lop, uproot, wilfully damage or wilfully destroy; or
  2. to cause or permit the cutting down, topping, lopping, uprooting, or wilful damage or wilful destruction of, a protected tree.

Grounds for making the Order

  1. Council is of the opinion that the protected trees make a positive contribution to the surrounding area in terms of visual amenity, biodiversity and landscape value. The protected trees make a positive contribution to the character and attractiveness of the area. Many of the trees are understood to have been planted in the 1970s or 1980s but the protected trees also include mature specimen trees which make a particularly significant contribution to the local setting. The Council is of the opinion that in accordance with s160(1A)(a) that it is expedient in the interests of amenity to make the Order.

A copy of the Order as made, together with a Map showing the area over which the Order has effect, is available for inspection without payment of fee in the Planning Policy page of the East Dunbartonshire Council website at:

Representations on the Order

Any person wishing to submit a representation to the planning authority in respect of the Order or of any of its provisions may do so in writing to Land Planning Policy, East Dunbartonshire Council, Southbank House, 1 Strathkelvin Place, Kirkintilloch, G66 1XQ or by email to: development.plan@eastdunbarton.gov.uk. All representations must be received no later than 19 April 2024 and must state the grounds on which the representation is made and the particular trees or group of trees to which the representation relates. The planning authority must consider all representations made in accordance with this paragraph before the Order is confirmed.
