Residents are being offered a further opportunity to have their say on the new river restoration project proposals planned for the Glazert Water.

The project is the result of a study commissioned by Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and the Scottish Government to restore rivers damaged due to the legacy of historical industrial activity. The Council has worked in collaboration with SEPA, using the Water Environment Fund SEPA administer, on this exciting project which aims to physically restore the Glazert Water, provide climate change adaptation opportunities, and revitalise the wildlife corridor serving the communities of north Kirkintilloch, Milton of Campsie, Lennoxtown, Clachan of Campsie and Haughhead.

A Proposal Of Application Notice (POAN)

[https://planning.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=S9MJ2DGJ01600] for the project has now been submitted to the Council’s Planning Department for permission to deliver this project in 2025.

As part of the planning process two consultation events are being held in the Lennoxtown HUB, Main Street, Lennoxtown on the following dates & times below:

  • Monday 25th March 2024 between 3pm and 8pm
  • Tuesday 16th April 2024 between 9:30am and 3pm

The intention of this consultation engagement is not only to meet planning application requirements but also to provide an update on the detail design and offer people an opportunity to feedback on the restoration project being proposed. Previous online consultations held in March 2020 provided the background information to the project and shared the proposed restoration options and initial designs to collect feedback, comments, and suggestions on the proposed opportunities to improve the amenity and recreational value of the area. Residents were encouraged to share thoughts on how the links between the village of Lennoxtown and the River Glazert could be improved. Feedback and input from the previous events were used to inform development of the detailed river restoration designs being presented at the forth coming events.

Residents can view the proposals via the online planning application reference TP/ED/24/0128 and provide feedback to our Planning Service.

Alternatively, you can contact the project team via our Customer Services helpline by telephoning 0300 1234510 or emailing raj.kumar@eastdunbarton.gov.uk
