Notice is hereby given that Westwood Community Council can proceed with an election in terms of South Lanarkshire Council’s Scheme for the Establishment of Community Councils.
Any person on the Register of Electors, for the area of the Community Council who seeks election to the Community Council, should lodge a nomination form signed by the prospective Community Councillor. The form should then be counter signed by a proposer and seconder, both of whom shall also be on the Register of Electors for the area.
A boundary map of the Community Council area is available to view on the Council website. Nomination forms are available from the Community Council Liaison Officer, Finance and Corporate Resources, Council Offices, Almada Street, Hamilton. ML3 0AA. Completed forms should be returned to the Community Council Liaison Officer no later than 4pm on Thursday 19 October 2017.
Depending upon the number of nominations received (maximum 14) one of the following steps will be taken:-
- Community Council Election – where the number of nominations received exceeds the number to be elected.
- Appointment of a Community Council – where the number of nominations received for the entire community council area is more than one half but does not exceed the total number of members to be elected.
- No Community Council –where the number of nominations received for the entire community council area is equal to or below one half of the total number of members to be elected, no Community Council will be formed. In such circumstances South Lanarkshire Council may take such action as it deems appropriate to foster the formation of a Community Council.
