It is the Council’s intention to undertake carriageway resurfacing works on the above road from Monday 2nd to Friday 20th May 2022, weekdays only.

To comply with current Health & Safety Legislation, it will be necessary to close the road to vehicular traffic during the construction periods stated.

The carriageway will be resurfaced between the junction with New Street and the junction with Bridge Street. The works will be split into 2 phases. Phase 1 will be between New Street and North High Street junctions, whilst phase 2 will be between North High Street and Bridge Street. Whilst works are being undertaken on Phase 1, on street parking and access on phase 2 will remain as normal. Similarly, when phase 2 is being undertaken, access to phase 1 will remain as normal.

It is anticipated that phase 1 will take up to two weeks with phase 2 taking approximately one week to complete, weather permitting.

  • Emergency service vehicles will have access as normal.
  • Refuse collection as normal.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
  • No on road parking will be available within the work area of the phase being undertaken.

No parking cones and signage will be placed out 24 hours in advance prior to the move from phase 1 to 2.

Dates are subject to change depending on weather and Covid-19. Any changes will be updated on www.tellmescotland.gov.uk

Please note that before the final surface layer is laid, the existing surface will be sprayed with a black bituminous emulsion which becomes very sticky. Please be aware (and make other family members aware) that this material should be avoided as it will readily stick to soles of footwear, bicycle tyres, pet’s paws, etc. and is very difficult to remove.

I apologise in advance for any inconvenience this work may cause. If you have any queries or specific access requirements please contact Ian King of this office by email roadservices@eastlothian.gov.uk
