UPDATE 23/1/20 - Section 2 in now complete - the eastbound carriageway is open to traffic as normal until 8am Monday 27th January 

It is the Councils intention to undertake carriageway repair work on the A198 Longniddry dual carriageway (eastbound) commencing on Monday 13th January 2020 for 3 weeks, weather permitting.

The works will be phased as follows:-

  • Section 1 – West end of dual carriageway - 8am Monday 13th January to 5pm Friday 17th January 2020
  • Section 2 – Seton Mains junction - 8am Monday 20th January to 5pm Friday 24th January 2020
  • Section 3 – East end of dual carriageway - 8am Monday 27th January to 5pm Friday 31st January 2020

In order to comply with current Health & Safety legislation, it will be necessary to close the eastbound carriageway to vehicular traffic during the above dates.

Westbound traffic will not be affected, access to Seton Mains will be maintained from the westbound carriageway only.

The diversion route will be via the B6371, B6371 East Lorimer Place Cockenzie, B1348 Edinburgh Road Cockenzie, B1348 Gosford Road Port Seton, B1348 Links Road Port Seton, B1348 Coast Road and A198 Lyars Road Longniddry.

An alternative diversion route for buses will be via the B6371, Alder Road Port Seton, Long Craigs Port Seton, B1348 Links Road Port Seton, B1348 Coast Road and Dean Road Longniddry, see plan for alternative route.

Additional information on the bus stops affected by the closure can be found in the attachements below.

Coastline Autos, Highland Plant Hire, The Mini Works, Architects Office and Seton Gardens will be open as normal. Access is available from both directions.

The school service 124 will operate as per the above diversion route and pick up in Longniddry as normal.

The pupils who normally use the school service from Seton Garden Centre and Seton Mains will be collected by taxi as follows: Seton Mains 0812   Seton garden centre 0814

Pupils who attend schools that are not in the catchment area should make their way to the nearest available bus stop, see attachments below for information on nearest bus stop.

As part of the works a temporary 40mph speed limit will in place on the westbound carriageway.
