Aberdeen City Council has made the above-named order in terms of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

Aberdeen City Council has made the above-named order in terms of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The effect of the order, which will come into operation from 00:01 on 27 October 2020, until 23:59 on 26 April 2022, is to impose the following traffic management measures on certain roads in Aberdeen:

A bidirectional mandatory cycle lane will be established on certain lengths of the Beach Boulevard and the Esplanade, Aberdeen: - (i) On the north and east sides of the Esplanade, Aberdeen, from a point 78 metres or thereby east of its junction with King Street, eastwards, then southwards to its northern junction with Links Road; (ii) On the east side of the Beach Boulevard, Aberdeen, from its northern junction with Links Road, southwards to its junction with the Esplanade; (iii) On the west side of the Esplanade, Aberdeen, from a point 15 metres or thereby south of its junction with the Beach Boulevard, southwards for a distance of 513 metres or thereby; (iv) On the east side of the Esplanade, Aberdeen, from a point 27 metres or thereby north of its southern junction with Links Road, southwards to a point 10 metres or thereby north-east of its junction with New Pier Road.

One way restriction - No person shall drive, or cause or permit to be driven, any vehicle, except a pedal cycle, on the Esplanade, Aberdeen, between its junctions with the Beach Boulevard and the north extended kerbline of its southern junction with Links Road, other than in a southerly direction.

No person shall drive, or cause or permit to be driven, any vehicle on the Esplanade, Aberdeen, so as to turn left onto Accommodation Road.

No person shall drive, or cause or permit to be driven, any vehicle on Accommodation Road, Aberdeen, so as to turn right onto the Esplanade, except for pedal cycles.

Except for access, no person shall drive, or cause or permit to be driven, any vehicle that exceeds 2 metres in width on the Esplanade, Aberdeen, between its southern junction with Links Road and its junction with New Pier Road.

There will be a prohibition of entry on vehicles, except for pedal cycles, proceeding onto the Esplanade, Aberdeen, from that section of the Esplanade west of the eastern kerbline of New Pier Road.

These measures are necessary for public safety, whereby, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, additional space is being established on roads to allow for social / physical distancing and active travel.
