Description : Aberdeen City Council has made the above-named order in terms of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of the order, which will come into operation from 00:01 on 8 September 2020, until 23:59 on 7 March 2022, is to impose a route for use by buses, pedal cycles, taxis and authorised vehicles only on that length of Union Street, Aberdeen, between its junction with Market Street and a point 27 metres or thereby west of its junction with the Adelphi. The authorised vehicles exemption is applicable to: - Private hire vehicles (as defined in Section 23(1) of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982). Vehicles that have a maximum gross weight that equals or exceeds 7.5 metric tonnes. Vehicles being used for police, ambulance, or fire and rescue purposes in pursuance of statutory powers or duties. Vehicles being used in the service of the local roads authority in pursuance of statutory powers or duties relevant to the specified length of road. Liveried vehicles, in the service of, or being employed by, a universal service provider, and in actual use while postal packets are being loaded/unloaded on the specified length of road. Vehicles in the service of, or being employed by, a security company and in actual use while currency or other valuables are being loaded/unloaded on the specified length of road. Vehicles (provided that the vehicle cannot conveniently be used for the same purpose on any other road) being used on the specified length of road in connection with any (i) building operation; (ii) demolition; (iii) laying, erection, alteration, or repair of any sewer or of any main, pipe or apparatus for the supply of gas, water, or electricity, or of any electronic communications apparatus; or (iv) excavation, provided that, in the case of any of the operations described in points (iii) and (iv), the said operation or operations are to be conducted within the extents of the road. This measure is necessary for public safety, whereby, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, additional space has been established on roads to allow for social / physical distancing and active travel.
